New Item from Amazon.com

Reselling

My first thought was to put the items on Craigslist.  I received zero interest; I am guessing these are a bit more of a niche product than the average Craigslist-er.

My friend had good luck with selling on Amazon, so that was my next step.  I decided I would give FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) a shot for the larger items.  How FBA works (in short) is you send your items to an Amazon warehouse.  It then is listed on Amazon and when it sells, Amazon ships it to the customer.  Basically once you send it in, you don’t have to worry about the product.  I figured this would be easier for me.

The problem I ran in to is when you are setting up your items to sell through FBA, they may have you ship your items to different warehouses (Lesson #4: Even with Amazon’s lower UPS rates, it still costs a lot to ship the items unless you do a bunch of items together.  You pay the cost to ship the item to Amazon up front).

I printed out the shipping labels and headed to the UPS store.  (Lesson #5: I didn’t repackage the items.  I sent the items to Amazon in the boxes they came from that you see in the photos above.  What I should have done is rebox them but that adds another cost and more time.  A buyer could potential return the item if the box was damaged).

It took over a week for my items to arrive at the Amazon FBA warehouse.  I chose to price my items at the lowest “New” rate on Amazon as I wanted the items to sell quickly.  This would undercut my profit, but also allow me a quicker turn around and assured money.

Mail In Rebates

Staples has a fairly painless online submission process for your rebates (my shopping trip included three types: check, Visa gift card, Staples gift card).

Step 1: Visit http://stapleseasyrebates.com as soon as you get home from making your purchases (so you don’t forget/lose your receipt).

Bank of America Checking Account Offer

Bank of America Checking Account Offer

Today I received a Bank of America checking account offer for 25,000 Alaska Airlines miles if I open a new Bank of America Interest Checking or Bank of America Core Checking account before July 31, 2015.  The offer also mentions you must receive at least two direct deposits, each of $2,000 or more, within 90 days of opening the account.

The offer seems to be targeted to Bank of America customers with an Alaska Airlines Visa card.  However, it seems that all you have to do is go to bankofamerica.com/alaskaoffer to sign up (Note: I do not receive any payment or compensation for you signing up).  You may have to connect an Alaska Airlines Visa card to the account to verify that you are eligible.

Centurion Lounge Seattle Opening This Summer

Centurion Lounge Seattle

The Amex Centurion Lounge Seattle at SeaTac is set to open sometime this summer.  It is actually a scaled back Lounge, technically called a Studio.  Amex Platinum card holders will have free access to the Studio while other Amex cardholders (non-Platinum) will be able to enter the Studio for a fee.

UPDATE: An astute reader alerted me that for Studio locations ONLY those with Platinum or Centurion cards may enter (and may bring in family or one guest).  While at the standard Centurion Lounge other Amex card holders may purchase a day pass, day passes are not available at the Studio.

UPDATE x2: The new Studio is now open!  The first day of operation is June 30, 2015.  If you go, please send me some photos and I’ll update this article.  info at singleflyer dot com

I was recently at SeaTac on my way back from Long Beach, CA and decided to check out how the construction is going.

Best Credit Cards for Single Travelers

Credit Cards

I should put a couple of big asterisks after the title: Best Credit Cards for Single Travelers*****  These are actually just the credit cards that are currently in my wallet.  And they work for me, some better than others.  Please take these with a grain of salt, I am not a financial expert.  I do not get paid if you get one of these — no referral links here.  You’ll have to just google them if you want to sign up.  And of course, if you don’t have good financial history or you don’t trust yourself with a credit card, then don’t get these.

With that said, here is what is currently in my wallet and why I find them useful.

Free Rental Car Status through MasterCard

IMG_0977

A little known benefit of a credit card you may already own is free rental car status through MasterCard World Elite.  For example, my Barclaycard Arrival + MasterCard is World Elite.  If you have a MasterCard (and most people d0), check the front or the back of the card for the “World Elite” title under the logo.  Common airline credit cards that are World Elite include Hawaiian, American, and Virgin.

Once you have identified you MasterCard Elite, the easiest way to enroll is to call 1-855-802-1387 from the US.  Currently the offers are for Avis, National, and Sixt.  So what do you get with the rental car status?  Here is a handy chart that shows you the benefits:

Hyatt Credit Card through Chase Bank

hyatt credit card
And the winner is… ME!

Today I received my brand spanking new Hyatt Chase Visa Card.  My Hyatt credit card was hand delivered this afternoon by a lovely UPS woman in a package that reminded me of an awards show envelope.  I had been considering the Hyatt credit card for the past few months, and finally decided to apply after reading about the 20% points back promotion.  I have a couple of trips coming up where I will be staying at Hyatt properties (The Pike Long Beach, Grand Hyatt San Diego, Regency Vancouver) and one stay at Aria Las Vegas (an Mlife partner) that made the credit card seem like a no brainer.  Plus there are some amazing sign up bonuses right now that are rumored to be disappearing in the future.
