Alaska Airlines First Class Refresh

Alaska Airlines First Class Refresh

While Alaska Airlines has previously announced a new First Class cabin, today we learned a few more details about the Alaska Airlines First Class refresh.

While none of it is huge news, there are a number of changes coming, including a new First Class menu starting immediately.  And apparently Alaska listened to Rocky, because they are now offering a vegetarian option on every flight!  The meals are trying to be West Coast inspired, which seems to mean fresher and more eccentric; like you would find on Virgin America currently.

While meals will be served on flights over 675 miles, now flights less than that will be offered a “fresh” snack.  Example given in the press release is a chipotle or edamame hummus plate (I love American’s edamame hummus) with pita and veggies.  I think this is a great addition for shorter flights.

Starting this spring, First Class passengers will be offered a quilt on longer flights.  It looks like the one available for purchase on Virgin America in Economy.  I think this is a very nice addition, especially for long flights across the country or to Hawaii where I actually try to sleep a bit.

New, larger inflight entertainment tablets and meal service ware is also coming this year.

The biggest change, the new seats for the Alaska First Class cabin, won’t be coming until this fall and will take into at least 2020 for all planes to be updated.
