Hyatt Centric Las Olas Fort Lauderdale Review
I spent one night at the Hyatt Centric Las Olas after my Virgin Voyages cruise that docked in Miami. It is a Category 4 property so I was able to use one of my free night certificates. The 238 room property is a newer build property on the bottom floors 8-15 of a larger residential tower.
Location
The property is located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale along the New River. It is about 2.5 miles from the ocean beach so this isn’t a resort property by any means. It is next to the old town of Fort Lauderdale which adds some character. The riverwalk is a nice way to get out and stretch your legs and there is a park across the street.
I arrived on the Brightline train. The Fort Lauderdale station is just a few blocks from the hotel. The airport is about five miles away.
Check In
I arrived around noon at the property. I saw I had been upgraded to a suite as a Globalist on my app, but knew that the likelihood was that the suite would not be ready at noon. I was told that my room was not ready and asked about getting a room that was available. The front desk agent asked if I was sure I wanted to give up my suite and I said yes. Instead she was able to get me a Balcony King Bed on the 10th floor.
At check in I was told breakfast was served at the lobby restaurant. I was also given two vouchers for complimentary cocktails at the bar.
The lobby is small but modern. The restaurant is located to the side of the lobby.
Room
I was assigned room 1008. A room card is required to access the elevators.
As you enter the room, closet space is to the left and the bathroom, with a barn style door, is to the right.
The closet is open style with some enclosed drawers. The large enclosed section is actually the HVAC system. The safe in my room was broken.
On the other side of the HVAC from the closet is a desk and empty mini fridge and coffee maker.
The king bed is against the back wall facing the wall mounted TV. On both sides of the bed is a table with modern lamps and power outlets. An arm chair sits in the corner. The mural behind the bed adds some flair to the room.
Both a sheer curtain and black out curtain cover the large floor to ceiling windows.
The panels slide open to allow a large open space out on to the balcony.
The balcony in Room 1008 is quite large as it incorporates part of the curve of the building. The balcony offers views of the city and the river.
Bathroom
The bathroom is large with some open, wasted space in one corner. As you enter, the sink is straight ahead with the toilet to the right.
The large shower with glass door is to the left. It offers both an overhead shower and a hand held shower head.
The water is extremely hard and discolored. I don’t know if that is the fault of the hotel or the city water supply. I’m sure it is harmless but it looks and feels gross.
The bath supplies are BeeKind branded.
Pool and Gym
The pool and gym are both located on Floor 8. The pool is outside and more luxurious than the pool at the Hyatt Regency Miami. There is a small bar at the back of the pool deck.
They gym is pretty standard with a few of each type of machine.
Breakfast
Globalist breakfast is served at Harborwood just off the lobby.
There is no buffet and I wasn’t told any limits for Globalists. I ordered the American Breakfast with a side of berries and an orange juice and it was all taken off my hotel bill.
The food was decent quality though my jam was moldy. I’m not sure if it was past the expiration date or had not been sealed correctly. The orange juice came from a carton and was not fresh squeezed. It wasn’t the most amazing Globalist breakfast but I appreciated that it wasn’t a buffet.
Overall The Hyatt Centric Las Olas Fort Lauderdale was a fine property. It didn’t stand out but I always appreciate a Category 4 property where I can use a free night certificate. It is the only full service Hyatt in Fort Lauderdale and for this reason I would stay again.
