Hyatt Regency Mainz Review
Mainz is a city located on the Rhine River and just a quick train ride from Frankfurt. I had a 36 hour layover at Frankfurt so I decided to book the Hyatt Regency Mainz for one night. A category 3 property, I booked one night for 12,000 World of Hyatt points.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Mainz is located on the banks of the Rhine River.
I took the S8 train from the Frankfurt Airport train station. It is a 30 minute ride to the Römisches Theater stop, just before the main Mainz station. It is then a 5 minute walk to the hotel.
The old town of Mainz is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and has a lot of character.
There is a small mall attached to the hotel with a grocery store.
Check In
I arrived around noon after an early morning flight out of Yerevan. Fortunately as a Globalist they had my room ready so I could check in and get some rest.
The lobby is large with a glass ceiling. It is built around an old fort which adds a uniqueness to the property.
The front desk agent said that there are only three suites in the hotel of 268 rooms. He said that Globalists almost never receive a suite upgrade at the property. I did check for the night of my stay and there were no suites available.
I was upgraded one level to a King Bed River View Room on the top floor. I was also able to confirm a 4pm late check out for the next day.
There is onsite parking if needed.
Room
I was assigned room 621 which is located next to the Regency Club.
As you enter, there is storage on the left and the bathroom is on the right.
For coffee drinkers, there is a Nespresso machine. There is also a stocked mini bar.
The room just fits the king bed.
The bed faces the TV. A small table and chair are in one corner, a second chair is in the other corner.
The best part of the room is the view of the Rhine. I noticed some windows opened but my windows was sealed shut for whatever reason. The air conditioning didn’t keep the room that cool, so it would have been nice to open the window for fresh air.
After I was in my room for a bit, a welcome treat of mini pastries was delivered.
Bathroom
The bathroom is dated; I imagine it was quite luxurious when it was built 20+ years ago. That was the overall feel to the hotel to me; high end but needed a good update.
The separate shower and tub were in a glass enclosed wet room. The shower had both a rain shower head and a hand held wand. There is a large mirror in the shower that is heated so it doesn’t fog up.
The bath products are a mix of the standard Pharmacopia and another product that didn’t seem to have a branding.
Regency Club
The small Regency Club is located on the 6th floor just off the elevators.
Non alcoholic beverages are available all day. In the evening there is a happy hour with wine and small bites. Not enough for a full meal.
Dining
Breakfast for Globalists is served in the Bell Pepper restaurant on the main floor.
The breakfast was a fairly standard buffet with egg dishes made to order.
There is also an outdoor cafe open for lunch and dinner. The kitchen is an old converted Airstream trailer. The food was good and reasonably priced. The setting is great; just about 100 feet from the river.
Pool & Gym
The fitness center is located in the basement.
There is a fitness area with standard machines open 24 hours.
The indoor pool and hot tub are next to the gym.
I believe they also have standard spa services for guests as well.
Overall
I haven’t been to Frankfurt, besides the airport, but I think Mainz offers a great option as opposed to the big city. It is so easy to get to from the airport and the location on the Rhine makes it feel more like a vacation then staying at an airport property. I didn’t find the service to be anything special and don’t expect much as a Globalist. Besides that it is a fine property and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
