Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Review

Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport Review

I decided to take a last minute trip down to Phoenix to avoid a second round of a winter storm in Seattle.  I had three expiring IHG free night certificates.  I was able to book two nights at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar but it wasn’t available for the night of my arrival.  Instead I used my free night at the Crown Plaza Phoenix Airport.

The room would have been only 18,000 IHG points, but with my certificate about to expire, I booked the room.  I knew I would be arriving late and thought the location by the airport made sense.

Location

The best thing about the hotel is the proximity to the airport.  Now that the Sky Train is open, you can catch the free train from either terminal at PHX Sky Harbor, take it to the Metro stop at 44th & Washington, and walk across the street to the hotel.  The Sky Train only has a total of four stops.  I flew in to Terminal 3 and it took about 10 minutes to get to the Metro stop.  It is then a walk across a skybridge, down some escalators, and the Crowne Plaza is right in front of you.  No need for a shuttle or Uber.

The morning after my stay I was headed to downtown to stay at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar.  I was able to take the Metro line downtown.  You can also take it the other direction to Tempe or Mesa.

The area around the hotel is pretty sketchy.  But if you need a place to stay close to the airport, it will do.  Once inside, the property feels secure.  You need a key to get up the elevators.

Room

I booked a King Standard with Sofa Bed and was assigned room 725.  The hotel has parking garages on both sides, so if you don’t want to be looking at the side of a parking garage, I would suggest floors 7-10.

As you enter the room, the bathroom is on the right, followed by a closet and the rest of the room.

It is a standard Crowne Plaza room; not the most modern but updated.

The couch was well worn but comfortable.  It faced the TV and desk.

Under the TV is an empty mini fridge and coffee maker.

The view was of the top of the neighboring parking garage.  The only noise was the light rail bell that would ding whenever the train passed.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a single vanity with plenty of counter space.  The shower tub combo has just a single standard shower head but very good water pressure.  The water in the sink drained quite slowly.

The bath products were Beekman branded and individual bottles were provided.

Pool

There is a pool and gym on property.  The pool is outdoors but is not very scenic.

The Crowne Plaza Phoenix Airport is a great location — no waiting for a shuttle or Uber.  It isn’t not he airport grounds but with the new Sky Train and light rail it is extremely convenient for a quick overnight before or after a flight.
