Excalibur Las Vegas Room Review
Excalibur is now the lowest tier property in the Las Vegas portfolio of MGM. When Excalibur opened in 1990, it was the largest hotel in the world (around 4,000 rooms). Rooms can often be found under $100.
As a disclaimer to this review, I didn’t actually stay at the Excalibur. I booked a room for one night for $64 ($22 room rate + tax and resort fee) in order to get a needed Hyatt stay credit for status and a current promotion. I visited the room but didn’t spend time in it or at the resort.
Location
Excalibur is located on the south end of Las Vegas Blvd at Tropicana Ave. It is connected to New York New York and Tropicana by elevated walkway, connected to Luxor by both walkway and tram, and connected to Mandalay Bay by tram.
Check In
Check in was extremely slow even though I was in the “Invited Guest” for M life elite members. I finally had to walk down to one of the staff members to tell them people were lined up as no one seemed to notice or care. They seemed extremely understaffed, not sure if it was due to fact that they had just reopened after COVID closure or if that is standard.
Room
I was assigned room 26-106, a king bed room in the Royal Tower. The Royal Tower rooms are a bit more modern than the Resort Tower rooms. I booked a Resort Tower room but I believe rooms in that tower were still closed due to COVID so I got an “upgrade”.
The room is actually completely fine for a place to sleep in Vegas. While not fancy, it was clean (though one light bulb was burnt out).
Overall the room had a very generic feel like you might find at a Hilton Garden Inn.
It is definitely an older hotel. While modern hotels have large windows, the Excalibur has one small window. Instead of central air condition, it has a built in wall unit.
The view from the room was kind of cool.
A sign showcased the complimentary amenities… The paper next to it explained the property response to COVID. Maybe guest health is an amenity? It said that fresh towels and housekeeping would be provided if you called the front desk. It also noted that I was provided with a kit that included a mask, hand sanitizer and a stylus — however I was not provided this. Perhaps the kits hadn’t yet been delivered.
Bathroom
The bathroom is outdated and basic. A few updates have been made like the large mirror and wallpaper, but otherwise it feels like your basic motel room bathroom. I am actually surprised there is not a bathtub considering the original “family” theme, but those may have been removed somewhere along the line.
The Excalibur is definitely a low tier property, but if you are looking for a bargain, or cheap Hyatt stays, I guess there would be worse options out there. Just remember you have to pay a $40 resort fee on top of the room rate.
