Readers of my website know that I am a loyal Alaska Air passenger, so I was excited to see the Alaska Airlines Spring Award Sale today. A big part of my loyalty to AS is not choice but the fact that 51% of all flights in and out of my local airport (SEA) are on Alaska. Delta is gaining on Alaska, but only accounts for 14% of all flights.
Alaska just announced their Spring Award Sale for Mileage Plan members. You can score some great flights for 5,000 miles (+$2.50). For example, you can fly SEA>SFO roundtrip for 10,000 miles (+$5.00). Even if you value your Alaska miles at a generous 2 cents per mile, that makes this round trip flight $205. Sure, you can make your miles go farther by using them to redeem first class on Emirates, but for the average traveler this is a great deal. There are some especially good deals for folks that live in small cities in WA or OR.
Make sure you book your awards flight by April 3 for travel between April 21 and June 11, 2015.
I am attempting to earn MVP Gold in 2015, so I won’t be redeeming my miles for this promotion as you do not earn miles on award tickets, even though I am tempted. Note you also are not eligible for free upgrades on award tickets.
If you have some Alaska miles (maybe you just got the Alaska Visa card) and don’t plan on traveling internationally any time soon, this is a great way to use your miles and travel for next to nothing.
I do not receive any compensation from Alaska Airlines or any other airline. The opinions expressed in the article are completely and only my own.
