Alaska Airlines adds Qatar Airlines as a Mileage Plan Partner

Alaska Airlines is joining oneworld on March 31, 2021.  So it is no surprise that in the future you will be able to earn Alaska Mileage Plan miles when flying Qatar Airways, a oneworld member.  What is a bit of a surprise is that you can start earning miles beginning December 15, 2020.

The earning rates are as follows when flying on Qatar Airlines and crediting to Alaska Airlines:

If you have elite status, then you earn even more miles.

I recently was able to snag a free flight on Qatar that was being offered to teachers/educators.  It books in to W class, so I’ll actually earn some miles for my free flight.  Not bad!

While at some point in the future you will be able to book Qatar Airlines with Alaska Mileage Plan miles, currently that is not possible and redemption rates have not been published.

Qatar to begin flights to Seattle

Qatar Airlines also announced a direct Doha to Seattle flight beginning March 15, 2021.  The plan is to fly the route with an A350-900 aircraft that includes Qsuites.  I look forward to trying out this fantastic Business Class seat.

The initial schedule has the flight 4 times a week (M, T, W, F) at the following times:

• Flight QR 720 – Depart Seattle at 5:05pm, Arrive Doha at 5:15pm +1 day
• Flight QR 719 – Depart Doha at 8:00am, Arrive Seattle at 12:20pm

I look forward to getting on the flight once travel opens post-COVID.
