Status Match to Discovery Loyalty Black
This summer I am planning a trip to Scandinavia. In doing research for my trip, it became quickly apparent that none of my go-to hotel brands have a footprint in Norway. I enjoy staying at local hotels; but I miss the benefits of elite status and opportunity to earn (or spend) points.
In consulting Rick Steves, the Thon Hotels chain was recommended for stays in Norway. Thon Hotels is part of the Discovery Loyalty program that includes other chains in the Global Hotel Alliance like Omni, Outrigger, and Pan Pacific.
I decided to sign up for Thon Discovery as they offer a 10% discount just for being a base member. With higher levels of membership (Platinum or Black), I could get benefits such as early check in/late check out, room upgrades and local experiences. Note that free breakfast is not included as a benefit.
I booked a refundable stay and emailed service@thonhotels.no with my membership number, stay confirmation number, and a screenshot of my Hilton Honors Diamond status. I understand you can also request your status match directly through the Discovery Loyalty by emailing discovery@gha.com
A few hours later I received an email back letting me know I had been matched to Black status. My status showed up on my account about a week later. The status is good for one year (status matched in February 2019, good through February 2020).
I have yet to use my status for any stays, but I will post about my experiences in the future. Are you a member of Discovery loyalty? What has been your experience with the program?
Hi,
I recently did the same thing with thon discovery, however I only got a one tier match to platinum tier. Did you have 30+ nights this year with Hilton? I do not have 30 nights yet in 2019 and maybe that’s why.
Thanks
I did not have 30+ nights with Hilton. My Diamond status was through the Amex card.
I have Hyatt Explorist but not activity unfortunately this year. Any chance of a status match to Discovery Platinum?
Can’t hurt to try! With COVID, I think lots of options are up for discussion.
