MGM Grand Las Vegas Renovated Room Review

The MGM Grand Las Vegas, at one time the largest hotel in the world, recently updated all of their guest rooms. I visited a year ago and reviewed the pre-renovation room at that time. I went back to see the changes.

I booked a two night stay using my Chase Sapphire The Edit credit. The room rate, including taxes and fees, was $103 per night mid week in December. As I booked through Chase, I received a $100 food and beverage credit.

I was assigned Room 27-333 on the 27th floor of the main hotel tower. The hallways have been refreshed with new carpet, lighting, wall coverings.

The layout of the rooms has not changed; this was not a full gut of the property. As you walk in, the bathroom is on the right, followed by a closet and the main part of the room.

The room is updated with neutral tones with wood accents. They have added a new certain that has a strip of panel that blocks any light bleed.

Compare this to the previous room.

The room is comparable to what you might find at a new Hyatt Regency. There is a bit of Vegas “flare” in the art piece.

The bed has built in USB (both A and C) on either side. There are additional USB ports at the desk and on the lamp. There is also a clock radio with built in wireless phone charger next to the bed.

Under the TV is a stocked mini bar, however a nice feature is that it has an empty portion for your own items.

Another modern feature is a switch on each side of the bed that controls a night light. It very softly illuminates under the bed, behind the bed, and over the art. It is dim enough that you could sleep with it on all night or flip it on if you need to use the bathroom.

One the way to the bathroom there is a built in closet with a light both in the closet and above it that are controlled by the switch at the door.

The bathroom also received some updates. The floor has not been touched, and neither has the sink area as far as I could tell (except an added shelf below the counter). The wall covering is the same but they removed the different color accent wall. Below the photo on the left is as it looks today, the photo on the right is pre-renovation.

The main change is that they removed the bathtub and replaced it with a shower.

The shower is pretty basic, just a single wall mounted shower head. But it feels more modern with the glass door instead of a curtain.

I’m glad to see that MGM Resorts is investing in upgrading their hotel rooms. My understanding is that Aria is next in line, as their rooms haven’t been updated since opening in 2009 (16 years ago as of this writing). Then they will move on to Cosmo.
