Last Thanksgiving I visited the Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Phoenix. The Royal Palms is part of the Hyatt Unbound Collection and is also part of The Edit Chase Sapphire Reserve program. You can read my full review of the property here.
I went back again this year for Thanksgiving. I paid $294 average per night after taxes for a base level room. I used a Guest of Honor in order to avoid the $50/night resort fee and to get breakfast as I am currently an Explorist. I was upgraded to a Casita, which I was looking forward to trying out after having a standard hotel room in the Montevista building during my previous stay.
I was assigned to Casita 134 at the far end of the property, just behind the pool.
Each Casita has a patio with two chairs and a table. The Casitas are in larger buildings with four or more units each. I had a Casita in the middle, meaning I had a unit on either side of me. The end units offer the most privacy and additional windows.
As you enter the Casita I was assigned, the bed is to the right next to the French doors.
There is a gas fireplace in the corner opposite the door. My unit had a desk in front of the window and a TV mounted on the wall facing the bed. I also requested a mini fridge that was set up next to the desk.
The bed has USB-A outlets built into the lamps on each side. There is also a clock radio with wireless phone charger.
An open doorway leads to the walk in closet and bathroom.
To the left is the closet. There is a mini bar with items for purchase.
The single vanity sink has a lighted mirror and large counter space.
Opposite the sink is the Keurig machine and two bottles of water that are replaced daily.
At the far end is the toilet and shower room that does have a door for privacy. The shower is a single wall-mounted shower head. The window in the shower area is stained glass and allows light in but gives you privacy.
The Casita is very comfortable. While not especially modern, it is in good shape and everything worked. The only issue I had was a gap under the front door that allowed a small lizard into my room (that I was able to relocate back outside).
I prefer the Casita to the more standard hotel rooms at the property, though if you want to guarantee you will get one it will cost you a bit more.
Have you stayed in a Casita at the Royal Palms? What did you think?
