In June I signed up for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. One of the benefits of the card, which has a hefty annual fee of $795, is access to Chase Sapphire Lounges. Previously I’ve only visited the Sapphire Lounge in Boston, which is a fantastic lounge with made to order dining.
I’d read that the Sapphire Lounge in Phoenix is small. It opened in late 2024 and like other Chase lounges, it is managed by The Club.
Location
The Chase Sapphire Lounge at PHX is located near Gate D11 of Terminal 4.
I had a 3 hour layover and my flights were going in and out of Terminal 3. So I had to leave security at Terminal 3, take the SkyTrain to Terminal 4, and go through security at Terminal 4 before getting to the lounge.
Terminal 4 has (at least) 4 security check points. Follow the signs for the D Gates security — they have a TSA Pre√ line. You could also do what I did and go through the A Gates security and loop back around to the D Gates. All of the gates at Terminal 4 are connected airside.
All in it took me about 20 minutes to get from my gate in Terminal 3 to the Lounge (and about the same to get back). If you have a tight layover in Terminal 3, it is not worth it to go to the Chase Sapphire Lounge. Stay in Terminal 3 and visit the Escape Lounge accessible by Priority Pass.
Lounge Access & Reservations
Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders get access to the Sapphire Lounge for free and may bring in up to two guests. Additional guests are $27 each. If you don’t have a Chase Sapphire Reserve but do have a Priority Pass (from any credit card or other membership), you get one Chase Sapphire Lounge (any location) visit per year.
Currently the Sapphire Lounge at PHX has an option to make a reservation through the Chase app if you are the primary card holder on one of the following cards: Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Reserve for Business, J.P. Morgan Reserve and The Ritz-Carlton Credit Card. You can make the reservation between 14 days and 24 hours before your flight. Unfortunately I didn’t even book my flight until 23 hours before departure, so I wasn’t able to make a reservation. If you know you are going to visit, reservations are highly recommended.
Since I didn’t have a reservation, I got in the standby line and was told it would be one hour and 30 minutes wait. I gave the employee my name and cell phone number and flight time. I believe he was a new staff in training, and English wasn’t his first language, and what I think he might have actually said was “between one hour and 30 minutes”, meaning 30-60 minute wait. Because I received a text that I could enter after only about 25 minutes.
Lounge
The lounge is quite small, only about 3,500 square feet. In order to maximize the number of guests, when you enter they assign you a seat. If you are traveling by yourself, you will be assigned either to the bar or a stool along a counter. If you are two or more, you will be assigned a table (or the bar). Typically I don’t like sitting at the bar, but they wouldn’t allow me to sit at a table.
There are essentially four sections of the lounge. Directly behind the check in desk is a small seating area with a fake fireplace that could seat about six to eight people.
There are two single person restrooms just past this area. It is not enough for the number of guests in the lounge. The restrooms themselves are night but no showers.
Next to the check in desk is the buffet with food, coffee, and cold beverages. I really enjoy the noodle bowls they have at most of their locations.
The bar is beyond the buffet. Behind the bar is a view to the runway. There are plugs and hooks (for small bags) at each seat at the bar. The bartenders seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. All drinks are complimentary.
The final area is the “patio” with a silver Airstream trailer that has been converted into a snack bar.
Food is served at the Airstream; you order it and they prepare it for you. It is in partnership with the larder & the delta, a restaurant in Phoenix. I’m not sure if it still exists as their website doesn’t seem to work and Google Maps shows it as permanently closed.
I didn’t have a chance to order from the Airstream. it seemed like most guests were eating from the buffet, so I’m not sure if this concept will last. It also takes up a large part of the already small lounge.
The Chase Sapphire Lounge at PHX is not up to the standards of the lounge in Boston or many other credit card lounges I have visited. It is better than no lounge, but if everyone visiting ends up having to wait to get in, I don’t know how great that is for customer service or the brand.

I have visited the lounge in July 2025. I reserved in advance and was able to go in immediately. There was a line of people waiting. Our party of 2 was seated at a table for 2 behind the bar. Very cramped in high traffic area. the Buffett was disappointing very few options and the only ice available was in a small bucket not much larger than a hotel ice bucket with an ice scoop. Yuck. The layout is confusing. The airstream was not a hit. It is around the corner open to the airport. Overcrowded and stressful. Sorry, I was so looking forward to the new lounge. Step it up Sapphire Reserve!
