Last December I purchased an annual Frontier GoWild! Pass for $299. It started on May 1 and finally in July I’ve started to be able to use it. I work in education so I have my summers mostly free.
You can definitely find some value with the pass. I was able to snag a flight from Buffalo to Denver for $15 that was priced at $299.
Here are some observations for those with the GoWild pass or those thinking of purchasing one.
- You can start booking your tickets at midnight (12:01am) in the time zone of your departure city. So if you want to fly BUF-DEN on Thursday afternoon, you can book it for the GoWild price starting at 12:01am EST on Wednesday.
- I have been able to cancel flights, even the same day (less than 24 hours) and receive a credit for the flight. I don’t know if this applies to everyone or if it is because I have Diamond Status with Frontier. But it makes for great flexibility (even though it is only $15 for most flights).
- When booking a two-leg flight (example: MSP-DEN-BNA) you can book the day before the departure of the FIRST leg. So even if the second leg isn’t until the following day, you can still book the full trip.
- Booking a two-leg ticket saves you a couple of dollars only. There are some benefits (see above), but also some risks to flexibility. If possible, I find it best to book each leg as a separate ticket.
- Once you fly one leg, I have found it impossible to cancel or change the second leg. I ran into an issue where I had booked MSP-DEN-PAE, then found a different flight out of DEN I wanted. I booked that new one, and flew on it, but wasn’t able to cancel the DEN-PAE leg. I didn’t care about the $15 or so, I just didn’t want to get in trouble for skipping a flight (I’ve read about some people that have received a threatening email about getting their pass canceled if they didn’t fly). I tried canceling it in the app, I tried using the chat function, I tried speaking to a gate agent, I tried speaking to a check in desk agent — none could figure it out. I finally got a check in agent at the airport to make a note in the manifest that I wouldn’t be flying (not sure what that actually means if anything).
- Inventory changes. Just because when search now for a flight five days from now and it looks like there will be GoWild space, doesn’t mean that there will be when the time comes. Likewise, just because it shows no space a few days before, doesn’t mean that space won’t open up closer in or on the day before. Inventory can even change hour by hour.
- It seems that the best inventory is in and out of Denver. This makes sense as it is Frontier’s hub. If you are thinking of doing the pass, just know that you may be doing a lot of layovers in Denver. Frontier now runs most of their flights out of a new wing of the A concourse (Gates A70 and higher). These gates remind me of school portables. You’ll also get the pleasure of boarding the plane from portable ramps out in the Denver heat/cold/snow/rain rather than a jet bridge.
