U2 Announces MSG Sphere Dates in Vegas

UPDATE: Official dates have been announced:

What had long been rumored was announced tonight during a 15 second ad during the Super Bowl: U2 will be playing a series of dates at the new MSG Sphere in Las Vegas starting in Fall 2023.

The show, titled U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere (doesn’t just roll of the tongue), seems to be honoring the 30th anniversary of their album Achtung Baby.

Previously U2 did a stadium tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree which I caught in Seattle.

The MSG Sphere is a $2 billion arena being built just east of the strip in Las Vegas.

Unlike other arenas, this is only set up for concerts and shows — it will not be used for sporting events.

The MSG Sphere under construction behind the Caesars Forum and High Roller wheel.

Larry Mullen Jr., U2’s drummer, will not be playing the first dates of the shows due to back surgery.  It is unclear if he will play any of the Vegas concerts.

U2 last played Las Vegas on May 12, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena as part of their U2:ie Tour.

I’ll be purchasing my tickets as soon as they go on sale — my favorite band in my favorite city.  Will you be there?
