Hyatt Regency Bellevue Review

Hyatt Regency Bellevue Review

The West Coast of the US has been hit hard this month by forest fires.  Currently there is hazardous levels of smoke in the air.  I decided it would be nice to get out of my stuffy apartment so I booked a night at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.  The have a great promotion going on right now called the Shop Dine Plan Package where you get a $100 gift card to use at the adjoining mall.  I was able to score a room for $199 + tax.  As Bellevue Square mall is a place I shop, the $100 gift card is great for me.  Plus I have a deal with my Chase Hyatt card where I get 10% back for a Hyatt stay, which will bring my stay down to $179.  And with the current triple points promo, I’ll end up earning over 4,000 Hyatt points.

Location

The Hyatt Regency Bellevue is an older property (late 1980s) in the heart of downtown Bellevue.  It is attached to the sprawling Bellevue Square mall — a skybridge takes you directly to the various areas of the mall.  Parking is free on the weekends and my rate included free valet parking (typically $40).

Bellevue is across Lake Washington from Seattle.  In terms of proximity, it would be like staying in Oakland compared to San Fransisco.

Check In

There were a number of other guests checking in when I arrived; also seeming to be escaping the smoke and fires.  I waited a few minutes.  The employee that helped check me in was very professional and apologetic that she couldn’t get me into a suite (as an Explorist).  She was able to get me in an updated room on the 24th (top) floor of the Cascade Tower.  The Cascade Tower is the older of the two towers and houses the Regency Club on the 23rd floor.

I was surprised to read online that there are 732 rooms in the Hyatt Regency Bellevue.  It is a huge property.

Room

I was assigned Room 2405, a King Bed Room in the Cascade Tower.  As you enter the room, the bathroom is on the left and a closet is on the right.

The bed faces a large wall mounted TV and storage unit with coffee maker and fridge.

In front of the window is a full size couch with small table.

A strange modern floor lamp is beside the couch.

The desk is built into the backlit headboard of the bed.

A safe is built into the bedside table.

I felt the room had quite high ceilings, not sure if that is because it is on the top floor or if all the rooms are built that way.

The view would be territorial, however with the smoke it is hard to tell what is out there.  I believe some rooms have views of the lake.  I also had a view of the Olympic Tower of the property.

Back by the entry a closet held your standard items.

Bathroom

The bathroom is pretty standard for Regency properties.  A single vanity with plenty of counter space and a lighted mirror.

Opposite the sink is the tub and shower combo.  The shower is a single wall mounted shower head.

The bath amenities are all Pharmacopia and is in wall mounted bottles.  My room also came with two bars of soap and a small bottle of lotion.

Amenities

As my stay was during the COVID pandemic, I didn’t get a chance to explore the hotel amenities.

There is a Regency Club on floor 23 of the Cascades Tower, but it is currently closed.  I understand that the Regency Club is rated as one of the best domestic clubs.  Currently breakfast for Globalists is in Eques on the 2nd floor but only on weekends.  I would guess Globalists can get breakfast room service on other days, but I didn’t get that confirmed.  There are a few restaurants on property and many more in the connected mall.

There is an indoor pool but it is closed due to COVID.  I believe the gym is open.

They Hyatt Regency Bellevue is a nice property if you need to be on the Eastside of the Seattle area (near Microsoft for example).  For tourists visiting Seattle, I would suggest one of the downtown Seattle properties (Olive 8, Regency, or Grand… in that order, or Thompson) to be closer to the action.

Have you stayed at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue?  What did you think?
