Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Review

Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Review

It is very rare for me to stay at a Best Western.  Last summer I stayed at the NOFO Hotel in Stockholm which is part of the Best Western brand.  The last time I stayed at an actual Best Western property was ten years ago (also on a road trip).  I actually have the highest elite status with Best Western (Diamond Select) through their very easy status match program.  The only benefit of status I can tell is that you get bonus points.

The cost for my Saturday night stay was $143 + tax.  I was able to stack a few Best Western promotions.  First, I purchased a $100 Best Western gift card that came with a bonus $20 gift card.  This immediately lowered the cost of my stay to $123.  Next, I registered for their promotion where you get a $25 gift card after your first stay.  I’m not sure I’ll stay at another Best Western but if I do this will help.  Best Western is also offering the Tanks A Lot promotion where you can get another $25 gift card if you pay for at least $10 of gas within 10 days of your stay and submit a receipt.  Finally, I was able to get in on promotion that offered 3,000 bonus points per stay if you made the reservation between July 2-5.

Location

I chose the Best Western because it is essentially the only option for hotels near Bryce Canyon.  It is located just outside the entrance to the park in Bryce Canyon City.  There is another Best Western in the town and a couple of non-chain hotels and RV parks.  It is a great location if you want to visit Bryce Canyon but don’t want to camp or stay in the Lodge.

There isn’t much else in the town.  In fact, as far as I can tell the “city” is pretty much owned by Ruby’s Inn which controls both Best Westerns, the grocery store, a camp ground, and both restaurants in town.  There is a Subway restaurant up the street and a restaurant at the Lodge inside the park.

Check In

I arrived a few minutes before 4pm (which is the properties check in time).  My room wasn’t ready and was given the option to wait or have a room that was currently available with not as good a view.  I said I was fine waiting and went and did some shopping in town.

I came back an hour later and my room was ready.  I was assigned room 3444, which despite the numbering, is on the 4th floor of the “South Tower”.

Room

I assume what makes the property a “Plus” is the size of the room.  It is slightly bigger than a standard hotel room.  I found the decor dated but perhaps that is just the style.

As you enter, the bathroom is on the left and the rest of the room straight ahead.

The king bed faces a TV that sits atop a microwave and mini refrigerator.  A desk sits to the side.

The view is of an RV park as well as the forest boundary of the park.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a double vanity section that is not closed off from the rest of the room.

The toilet and shower are in a room with a door opposite the sinks.

The bath products are Pharmacopia brand, which many Hyatt Regencies seem to stock, though a different scent.

Breakfast

Breakfast is included for all guests.  The restaurant only serves breakfast; if you want lunch or dinner you have to go across the street.  The breakfast had quite a line but the service was quick.  Because of COVID, it was buffet but the staff dished up what you asked for.  They had a number of hot items including eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, and waffles.

Pool

There is an outdoor pool and hot tub in the center of the hotel.  There is also a fitness center and laundry room.

The proximity to Bryce Canyon makes this property a great choice.  I think it is the “highest” end property in town (but that isn’t saying a whole lot).  If you aren’t looking to camp in the park or stay at the lodge, then this is your best option for lodging.
