Andaz Napa Review

The Andaz Napa was originally built in 2009 and opened under the Avia brand before Hyatt purchased the chain in 2011.  The property reopened as a Hyatt Andaz in Fall 2012.  Not much was changed about the property; which means the rooms are now 11 years old with mostly the original furniture/design.  An earthquake in 2014 damaged the property but it was reconstructed in the same design.

I booked my room through a Prive agent as no award rooms were available over President’s Day Weekend.  The rates were quite high, but the Prive benefits helped ease the sticker shock.


The Andaz Napa is located in the center of Napa on 1st Street.  Everything in the town is walkable; though wineries are a drive.

Park in the Andaz garage is $16 per day, but there is plenty of street parking for free on the weekends.  Just be sure to read the signs carefully.  Parking is in addition to the $30 + tax “destination fee”.  For some reason my destination fee was waived (not sure if this was out of goodwill or because I had booked through Prive or as an Explorist, but I didn’t complain or ask).

Check In

I arrived late in the evening, after 10:00pm.  As is typical of Andaz, there isn’t a check in desk, instead staff greet you and check you in at a table on their laptop.

As I booked my hotel through a Prive agent, I was given an upgrade to an 1 King Bed Loft Room.  I also received a $100 property credit, free breakfast for 2, and a welcome amenity in the room (two free drinks and a charcuterie board).

I was assigned room 403.  The property has a total of 5 floors (floors 2-5 with guest rooms).  Two elevators serve the guest floors and no key access is needed to operate the elevator.  Each floor has an ice machine and water bottle refill station.


The 1 King Bed Loft is slightly larger than other rooms at 450 sq ft.  As you enter, there is a living room area with couch and swivel TV.

Against one wall is the mini bar area with complimentary snacks and soda (alcohol and water is extra).

The snack items are disappointing: chips, granola bar and cookie that are all very generic and can be purchased at any Costco or gas station.

The bedroom area is separated by the swivel TV half wall.

On the side of the bed opposite the bathroom is a desk with stereo.

The Loft room has two windows.  The view from my room is of the courtyard on the 2nd floor.  Rooms on the front side of the building have views of 1st Street.


The bathroom is clean and bright with lots of marble.  A single vanity is in the middle with the shower with glass wall on one side and toilet on the other.

The shower has both a rain shower and hand held shower head.  The bath amenities are branded “29” and were a nice quality though the lotion wasn’t very thick.


Each morning breakfast is served at the Farmer’s Table on the ground floor off the lobby.  Through the Prive program, I was told that you get a $40 credit (x2 people) per day, though when my bill went over, they still took off the full amount plus the tip from my final bill.

The prices were high but the food was great quality.  Still, I probably wouldn’t eat there if it wasn’t included.

There is a coffee shop in the lobby for snacks and beverages.

Additionally on the 2nd floor is the Mercantile Terrace, an outdoor patio restaurant and bar.

One big thing to note is that currently the property does not have a gym, spa or pool.  However, they have partnerships with local gyms and will even pay for your Lyft ride to get there.  It sounds like there is a plan to add a gym at some point.

Overall I was impressed by the Andaz Napa.  It isn’t as edgy as most Andaz properties, but because of that it fits in better with the Napa region.  It could just have easily been a Centric in my opinion.  The extra charges (“destination fee” and parking) could add $50 to your room rate, so take that into consideration.  And I think “destination fees” are dishonest, even if you don’t have to pay them.  Putting those issues aside, I enjoyed my stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if the price was right.
