Hotel Indigo Helsinki Boulevard Review
After arriving in Helsinki on the Silja Sympony, I had two nights before heading out on to Estonia. During an IHG sale I was able to book the Hotel Indigo for around $90 per night.
It is hard to place Hotel Indigo in the IHG chain. I would say it is budget hip — in the same category as Hyatt’s Centric or Hilton’s Canopy. The Hotel Indigo is modern and new construction.
Location
Helsinki is not a particularly huge city. The Hotel Indigo is in the design district — not particularly known for any of the big tourist attractions but close to everything.
There is a tram stop out front which makes it easy to get around.
The harbor is about a 15 minute walk (the tram isn’t helpful for getting there). The train station and center is about a 10 minute walk or quick tram ride.
Check In
I arrived at the property an hour before official check in but they had a room ready for me on the 8th (top) floor. I was asked if I wanted a street or courtyard view and I opted for the courtyard. The front desk agent was very cheerful and helpful.
It was explained that breakfast is not included and would be an extra €25. I didn’t ever do breakfast at the hotel; the fantastic Ekberg bakery is across the street and a much better option.
The restaurant and bar are just off the lobby.
There is additional seating throughout the lobby.
I requested a 2:00pm departure on my check out day and was given it without any hassle as a IHG Platinum elite.
Room
I was assigned room 808. There are two elevators and room key is needed to access the guest floors.
As you enter, the bathroom is on the left. The rest of the room is straight ahead.
The room has a wall with art representing the neighborhood. The TV is mounted on the wall with a desk under it.
The room has good black out curtains (necessary this far north). The window opens a bit which is nice because the room doesn’t cool down very well. A nice view of the roof tops in the neighborhood.
Back towards the door is a closet with three sections that includes the safe and mini bar, coffee maker, and robe with slippers.
Bathroom
The bathroom has some pops of color that match the art in the main room. There is a single vanity under the mirror. A night light can be turned on to illuminate the floor. The floor is heated and there is a temperature control on the wall.
The shower has a glass wall and door. Both a rain shower and wand shower head are installed.
The bath products are Aveda and both shampoo and conditioner, as well as lotion, body wash, and a bar of soap are provided.
Sauna & Gym
Being that this is Finland, there is a sauna and gym in the basement. The gym is pretty standard.
The sauna (segregated by gender) includes a locker room followed by the dry sauna and steam room with showers. It is only opened for a few hours in the morning and a few in the evening. It is hard to see but the key rings for the small lockers are cookie cutters.
Overall I felt the Indigo did a nice job. It is a brand I am trying again in Krakow in a week. Have you stayed at a Hotel Indigo property? How did you find the brand?
