Hilton Copenhagen Airport Review

Hilton Copenhagen Airport Review

UPDATE: As of April 1, 2017, this property will no longer be a Hilton property.  It will be reflagged as a Clarion.

My morning flight out of Copenhagen was scheduled to depart at 6:00am so it made sense to look for a hotel near the airport.  There are no Hyatt properties in Copenhagen, but there is a Hilton located at the airport.  In fact, the Hilton Copenhagen Airport property is the only airport hotel at CPH.  There are a few others a bit of a drive away, but the Hilton Copenhagen Airport is actually attached to the airport; you never have to set foot outside if you do not want to.

I booked the one night for 20,000 Hilton HHonor Points + $89 USD (by my valuation it was a better deal than paying straight cash or straight points).  I used my Citi Premier card which had a targeted offer for 5 bonus ThankYou Points for every dollar spent at a Hilton (on top of the 3 normally earned for hotels) and also received 1,000 Hilton HHonor points as a welcome bonus since I am a Diamond elite through status match.

The property is a modern atrium style hotel.  There is a restaurant in the lobby, spa on site, fitness center but no pool.

Location: As I mentioned, the Hilton Copenhagen Airport is attached to the airport terminals via covered passages.  You have to go up and down some escalators but it is easy to navigate and the signage is good.  The 12 story tall building was easy to spot from the runway as I was taxiing in.  There is a main entrance to the hotel that is just across the street from the entrance to the airport or you can take the inside passage that also connects to the Metro and train station.

Via either Metro or train service you can get to Copenhagen city center in about 15 minutes.  The very helpful concierge suggested I purchase a 24 hour pass as it allowed rides on Metro, train and bus and was approximately the cost of two trips.  Tickets can be purchased via kiosks at the station but it seems you have to have Danish currency (no credit cards).

Check In: Prior to check in I was sent an email saying I had been assigned a room on the 9th floor but could pick any open room via the Hilton app.  I picked a King Executive Room on the top floor of the Hilton Copenhagen Airport.  However I arrived at the property at noon and the room wasn’t ready yet.  I was given the option to wait until 2:00pm for the room or choose another room.  The same room but on the 5th floor was available immediately so I took it.  The room on the 12th floor would have had better views of the airport but it was not worth waiting 2 hours for it.

The staff that helped me was extremely friendly and helpful.  She had a “trainee” badge on her name tag so I am guessing she was really going above and beyond.  I was impressed.  She explained that since I would be checking out so early that I was invited to the quick breakfast in the lobby since the Executive Lounge wouldn’t yet be open.  She also gave me a map and showed me the best options for my quick visit to Copenhagen.

Lobby

The Room: My Executive King Room on the 5th floor was very clean, modern and Scandinavian.  Upon entering there were two large closets on the right and bathroom on the left.  Floor to ceiling windows let in plenty of light.  The King bed was comfortable and had standard Scandanavian duvet (no top sheet) that was split in two.  I kind of liked it; if you were sharing the bed each person had their own duvet.  There was a desk/table with two chairs.

The speaker system was a high end Bang & Olufsen (which I didn’t try out).

There was also a coffee/tea maker and two complimentary bottles of water.

The view wasn’t anything special, you had to look out at an angle as part of the view looked back at the hotel.  I had a view of the airport terminal and the passage to get to the hotel.

Bathroom: The bathroom was large but didn’t seem as modern as the rest of the property (maybe that is just how Danes do bathrooms).  Two vanities, bath tub and separate shower.  It was very clean and huge fluffy towels were provided.

The Peter Thomas Roth standard bath amenities were plentiful and seemed high quality.

Executive Club: The Hilton Copenhagen Airport Executive Club, available to guests booking or upgraded to an Executive Room or Diamond member, is located on the 12th floor of the property.  It offers breakfast in the morning, beverages during the day, and a happy hour/snack time before dinner.  It was a nice enough space; modern and clean.  I noticed they had the same globe light fixtures as the Centurion Studio in Seattle.

Views from the lounge allowed you to see the airport and the bridge to Sweden.

The lounge staff I interacted with was extremely friendly and knowledgable about the city.

The early breakfast in the morning, from 4:00-6:00am, is available for all guests and is located in the lobby.  It is very basic; some bread/rolls, sliced deli meats and cheese, coffee, tea and juice.  But still nice to have before running off to catch a flight.

Overall: This was my first stay at a Hilton in a long time.  I was impressed with the Hilton Copenhagen Airport.  It is a solid airport hotel with great connections to the city.  If I had more time I would have preferred to stay in the city center, but for convenience for travelers the property would be tough to beat.
