Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare

Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare

Today Alaska Airlines is announcing a new benefit to their Bank of America partner Visa card for customers signing up for the card in May and June.  The Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare, which is usually $99 plus taxes, will be lowered to $0 plus taxes.  This means that if you are approved for an Alaska Airlines Visa card during May or June, for the $75 annual fee you will essentially get a buy one, get one free ticket on an Alaska Airlines coach fare after you meet the minimum spend requirements.

Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare

You do not need to use the Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare during May or June, you can use it any time during the first year of having the card.  For subsequent years, should you choose to keep the card, you will pay the standard $99 plus taxes for your Companion Fare.

The Alaska Airlines Visa Companion Fare can be used for Alaska or Virgin America flights as long as you book on alaskaair.com

Note that this is only good for customers that sign up and are approved for the Alaska Airlines Visa during May and June.  My annual fee on (one of) my Alaska Visa cards is due during this time.  I’ll attempt to call Bank of America and see what the offer me to stick around for another year.  If they don’t offer me the “free” Companion Fare I’ll likely cancel my current card and apply for a new one.

To sign up for the Alaska Airlines Visa card, click here.  You will get 30,000 miles upon approval along with the free + tax and fees Companion Fare.  Full disclosure: I also get 5,000 miles if you sign up with my link.  UPDATE: FrequentMiler has directions on how to get the card with a $100 credit when creating a dummy booking.

Alaska Airlines launches zero dollar* companion fare offer for new cardholders in May and June

Popular cardholder benefits now available on Virgin America-operated flights

SEATTLE — A new, limited-time promotion makes Alaska’s Famous Companion FareTM offer even sweeter for new Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® consumer cardholders this May and June. New cardholders who apply in May and June can buy one ticket and get their first companion fare for just the taxes and fees (after qualifying purchases).

The annual companion fare is one of the most popular benefits of the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® card, allowing cardholders the opportunity to take someone along for the ride to anywhere Alaska and Virgin America fly for $99 (plus taxes and fees from $22) – with no blackout dates. This benefit is good for any coach fare, any day, any time. All new qualifying cardholders during May and June will only pay the taxes and fees for the companion fare in the first year.

“For the next two months we’re taking one of our best credit card benefits and making it even better,” said Ryan Butz, Alaska’s managing director of loyalty marketing. “Since we introduced the companion fare in 1999, guests have saved hundreds of millions of dollars on companion airfare, and we can’t wait to introduce this popular benefit to new cardholders.”

Alaska cardholders flying on Virgin America flights now enjoy all of their favorite benefits, including Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare™ (when booked via alaskaair.com), a free checked bag for the cardholder and up to six other passengers on the same reservation, and three miles for every dollar spent directly on Alaska and Virgin America purchases.

The card is tied to Alaska Mileage Plan, the country’s top-ranked frequent flyer program. Members enjoy complimentary upgrades for elite members, award travel starting at 5,000 miles one-way (plus taxes and fees) and a faster path to elite status compared to other airlines.
