A warning about iPad Resale

iPad Resale

I am a huge Apple guy.  I have a MacBook, iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, etc.  I worked for Apple for a short time in 2008 (but do not any more… I have no inside scoop, sorry).  iPads also have been a staple (pun) in my manufactured spend and resale game for meeting minimum spend on credit cards.  However, I won’t be doing any iPad resale for the foreseeable future.  Here is why.

Historically new iPad models are introduced in October and I don’t think that is much of a secret.  That likely means that current models will be discounted shortly.  Having inventory on hand will not be a good thing.

Furthermore, the likelihood of returns (i.e. if you sell through Amazon) is going to be higher when people realize that their newly purchased model is now outdated.

The new iPad Mini will likely be a dramatic increase from the current iPad Mini 3.  The iPad Mini 2 and 3 are virtually the same.  So the iPad Mini has not seen much of an update in 2 years.  I am guessing this October we will see a dramatic change.

There is just too much volatility right now for me to invest too much in stocking up on iPads right now.  Sure, if I see an iPad at a discount I have never seen before (50%), I’ll jump on it and hope for the best.  But I think the iPad resale game won’t be as lucrative until the new generation start to go on sale next spring.

What do you think?  Are you going to hold off on iPad resale until things calm down?
